Most range bags give out in the same three places: the bottom corner that drags across gravel, the zipper track that packs with grit and the handle stitching that quits halfway from the truck. Magpul builds its DAKA range bags around those three problems, and the lineup now features flat dark earth alongside the original black in both the 20-liter small and 40-liter large sizes.
The shell fabrics carry Magpul’s own names. DAKA Grit is a 600-denier TPU-coated nylon and DAKA Dura is an 840-denier version of the same material, and instead of sewing panels together, the company radio-frequency welds the seams. Dual YKK Aquaguard zippers close the main compartment and the side pockets, and Magpul said the side pocket interiors are RF welded to seal them independently of the rest of the bag.
Underneath sits a structured Hypalon bottom with a compressed foam insert, which gives the bag its shape and puts a barrier between concrete and whatever is riding inside.
Magpul divides the large bag into a main compartment and two side pockets sized for ear pro, eye pro or ammunition. Under the lid there’s a zippered mesh slip pocket and four stretch woven pockets—two long enough for an AR-10 or a short-action AICS PMAG, two sized for a Glock PMAG or an AMAG—with a document pocket behind the magazine wall.
Two sets of four elastic loops inside the main compartment hold up to eight magazines, joined by a stretch mesh-gusseted pocket and a loop-lined wall for hook-and-loop accessories. That lid folds flat into a padded work mat.
Tuckable sling mounting plates sit on each side of the bag, compatible with quick-detach swivels, Paraclips, MASH Hooks or similar connectors, so it can ride on a shoulder sling when it’s heavy. Handles anchor to a die-cut DAKA patch instead of stitched webbing. An RF-welded ID card slot and a dot matrix grid on the end panel cover labeling for shooters who share gear or run a class.
The large bag measures 21½ by 11½ by 11 inches and weighs 3.3 pounds. As for its smaller sibling, the 20-liter DAKA range bag runs 16½ by 11 by 10 inches and weighs in at 2½ pounds, with a main body of 14½ by 9½ by 9 inches.
Magpul said the line was designed to be the last range bag a shooter needs, a claim that only a few seasons of rain and gravel lot parking will settle. What the flat dark earth version can do in the meantime is hide the evidence of those seasons better than black does.
