ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Comp-Tac has redrawn the International, the outside-the-waistband holster that has been turning up on IDPA squads for more than a decade. The new version is called the International V2, and it’s thinner through the body, lighter on the belt and cut deeper around the top of the slide.
Red dots are practically standard equipment on competition pistols now, and the tall irons that co-witness with them stack higher yet. A shell molded around a bare slide will drag on an optic housing, which is why plenty of them have met a shop grinder at some point. Comp-Tac cut the relief in at the mold, deep enough to clear most suppressor-height and co-witness sights straight out of the package.
“The original International Holster earned its reputation one stage, one match and one fraction of a second at a time,” said Truett Whitt, sales manager for Comp-Tac Holsters. “It is slimmer, lighter and more adaptable, but it still delivers the fast, consistent draw that made the International the go-to holster for IDPA competition.”
Comp-Tac says the original has been the top holster among competitors at the International Defensive Pistol Association’s national championship for more than 14 years, a figure the company draws from the match’s annual competitor survey.
The body is all Kydex, and rigidity is most of the point. A molded shell holds its shape with the gun out of it, so the draw on Sunday afternoon feels like the draw on Saturday morning. Sweat and solvents don’t do much to it. Retention is adjustable with a screw.
Around the perimeter sit eight mounting holes, which cover straight and speed-draw positions plus FBI cant and a rearward cross-draw cant. Ride height moves, too. In addition, Comp-Tac laid out the pattern to accept third-party attachments.
Three mounts ship in the box. Most competition shooters will run the belt mount, good for belts from 1½ to 2¼ inches once the adjustment bar is repositioned or pulled entirely. There is a vented paddle for anyone tired of threading a holster through belt loops. The drop-offset piece sets the gun away from the body and lower on the hip, with a cross brace to keep it from flexing, and it tends to work for shooters with shorter arms or smaller frames.
Comp-Tac fit-checks every holster against the actual firearm it was molded for before it ships. Raised lettering on the shell spells out make and model, useful when your range bag holds multiple black Kydex holsters that look alike.
