Nikon’s Spot On Wind Meter and Spot On Ballistic Match app brings convenient real-time crosswind data to your smartphone and/or tablet, giving you better consistency and control of your shooting in long-range situations.

When shooting long distance, one of the hardest things to judge is wind speed. The more you shoot the more the wind may affect your cartridge. This simple tool integrates with Nikon’s Spot On mobile app, plugging into the audio jack of a smartphone or tablet. The app has an easy-to-use interface that allows shooters to input data and make selections quickly. The app reads in meters/second, miles/hour, and Beaufort scale for convenience.

Using the Spot On Wind Meter

Step 1: Download Nikon’s Spot On Ballistic Application. Plug the Wind Meter into the headphone port on your device and open the app.

Step 2: Choose your model of Nikon riflescope, caliber/load, sight-in distance and target distance.

Step 3: Click “Atmospheric Conditions” and input your local conditions.

Step 4: Capture your current wind speed by holding the Wind Meter facing into the wind. Select the wind direction relative to your target position and set the app to display the wind drift on your reticle in either clicks, inches or MOA.

The Spot On app not only shows hold-over points as they pertain to bullet drop, but now shows you the number of clicks to adjust your scope to compensate for wind drift. The wind meter only provides the wind within close proximity to the shooter. Although the wind downrange can affect the trajectory of your bullet, the point of impact is most effected by wind gusts that occur closer to the shooter because the shift in trajectory is amplified in accordance with the amount of distance the bullet still has to travel before impact.

The Nikon Spot On Wind Meter is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and all major Android devices. MSRP $34.95.
