With an initial order of $37 million, Winchester has been selected by the U.S. Army as the second-source provider for small-caliber rifle ammunition. This contract specifies 5.56 mm, 7.62 mm and .50-cal. ammunition and is the third consecutive second source contract Olin Winchester has received.

This latest announcement comes after Winchester was selected in 2019 as the operating contractor at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. The uptick in federal work is a result of Winchester Ammunition's reputation for delivering high-quality products at a reasonable price, and in a timely fashion.

Since World War I, Winchester has been the U.S. Army’s largest commercial supplier of small-caliber ammunition, also meeting the needs of law enforcement and U.S armed forces with decades of support at the highest levels. The new contract solidifies the company's position. In addition, Winchester AA shotshells are a favorite of six-time Olympic medalist and NRA Board Member Kim Rhode.

Earlier this year, Winchester debuted AA Diamond Grade Elite Trap shotshells designed especially for trapshooters. The new shotshells are legal for competition under ATA rules by using non-plated Diamond Grade shot.
