The 2025 Virginia State High School Clay Target League (VASHSCTL) Trapshooting Tournament is locked and loaded for June 7 at the Fairfax Rod and Gun Club in Manassas, Virginia. As the premier event of the spring season, the tournament will showcase the best high school trapshooters from across the Commonwealth.

Participants at this year’s Virginia Trapshooting State Tournament will shoot 100 targets in a single-day format, with individual scores also contributing to team rankings. Athletes are grouped by experience level—Novice, Junior Varsity and Varsity—based on their spring season averages. For the team competition, the five highest individual scores, regardless of classification, determine the team’s overall result.

The $35 registration fee covers the 100-target round, an official tournament t-shirt, individual and team awards, along with special patches earned for straight hits (25-, 50-, 75- and 100-in-a-row).

In all, VASHSCTL state tournaments this year will feature 32 student-athletes from five high schools, with nearly 50 athletes having participated statewide during the spring league season. All student-athletes and teams are members of the USA High School Clay Target League—the nation’s largest clay target shooting sports program for secondary and postsecondary students.

Crucially, this event is made possible by generous support from several outdoor and shooting sports sponsors. Among them, Friends of NRA plays a vital role. Their ongoing investment in youth shooting sports helps provide opportunities like this for student-athletes to compete, grow and succeed. Friends of NRA grants and fundraising efforts also support safety programs, equipment and education for young shooters.

Other sponsors for the 2025 Virginia High School Clay Target League Trapshooting State Tournament include the Bass Pro/Cabela’s Outdoor Fund, Do All Outdoors, Walker’s, Sportsman’s Guide, SCHEELS, Strike Visuals, Ducks Unlimited and Guns.com.

Top performers from the 2025 Virginia State Tournament will be eligible to compete at the upcoming 2025 USA High School Clay Target League National Championship in July.

As the 2025 season wraps up, the Fairfax Rod and Gun Club will host more than just a trapshooting tournament—it will celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship, youth development and the organizations like Friends of NRA that help make it possible.

The USA Clay Target League, which oversees the VASHSCTL, now boasts more than 54,000 student-athletes nationwide. Known for its exceptional safety record—zero reported injuries since 2001—the USA Clay Target League emphasizes safety, fun and marksmanship in every competition. Its co-ed, adaptive format ensures inclusion for students of all abilities and backgrounds. Learn more at usaclaytarget.com.
