USA Shooting athlete Griffin Lake captured the first medal for the U.S. at the 2025 International Shooting Sports Federation Suhl Junior World Cup on Tuesday, May 20, earning a bronze in the Junior Men’s 50m Rifle Prone event. The 2025 ISSF Junior World Cup for Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun is being held in Suhl, Germany, from May 19-27.
Lake—a top shooter on the West Virginia University rifle team—secured a podium finish at the ISSF Suhl Junior World Cup after firing an overall score of 624.6. His final score was only 2.1 points behind the silver medalist, Adriyan Karmakar of India.
Hailing from Emmaus, Pennsylvania, Lake has enjoyed a standout 2025 season, highlighted by an NCAA rifle championship title with West Virginia University in March—marking the program’s 20th national championship. He continued his impressive run by capturing both the men’s air rifle and smallbore titles at the 2025 USA Shooting Junior Olympic Championships. Additionally, Lake’s Junior Olympic performance qualified him for the 2025 Junior Pan American Games Air Rifle team. He will represent the U.S. in Asunción, Paraguay, this August.
No stranger to the international stage, Lake captured the bronze medal in the Junior Men’s 50m Rifle 3-Position event at the 2022 ISSF World Championships, also competing for Team USA at the 2024 ISSF Junior World Championships.
Lake will continue competing in Suhl this week in the Men’s Air Rifle and 50m Rifle 3-Position events.
