With a final score of 461.3, Ukrainian shooter Kulish Serhiy landed the silver medal in the Men’s 50m Smallbore 3-Position Rifle event at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Thursday, August 1.

“I am overwhelmed with emotion. It is hard to describe,” Serhiy said. “It was a hard competition. I just tried to concentrate hard to get the job done.”

Serhiy exited the Men’s 50m Smallbore 3-Position Rifle event qualification round on Wednesday in third place with a score of 592-39X.

He walked away from the Men’s 50m Smallbore 3-Position Rifle final only 2.3 points behind the gold medalist, Chinese shooter Yukun Liu. Taking the bronze medal was Swapnil Kusale of India with a score of 451.4.

Serhiy’s best performance in the Men’s 50m Smallbore 3-Position Rifle final was in prone position, firing score of 52.8, 52.0 and 52.4. As for the standing position elimination round, he opened up with a 10.4 shot, but couldn’t break past 10.0 after that, with shots of 9.9, 9.1, 9.9 and 9.4.

Thus far, the silver medal earned by Serhiy at the Chateauroux Shooting Center today is the best performance from Ukraine at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

“This medal is for my family and my country,” Serhiy said.

When asked during the post-final press conference about the difficulty of training for the Olympics in light of the war in Ukraine, Serhiy said, “It’s always hard to prepare for any Olympic cycle … It’s always challenging. I’m happy with what I’ve achieved.”
