There are moments in this industry where something arrives that simply makes sense. Not built on hype and not chasing trends, but grounded in solving real problems for real shooters. The Ruger RXM Full Size is one of those moments and, more importantly, it represents something bigger than a single handgun—it introduces a platform.

Born from a collaboration between Sturm, Ruger and Company, and Magpul, the RXM was not designed to reinvent the striker-fired pistol. It was designed to refine it, improve it and make it more adaptable to the way shooters actually live with their firearms. From competition to concealed carry, from home defense to training days on the range, the RXM is built to move with the shooter, not force the shooter into one fixed configuration.

A PLATFORM, NOT JUST A PISTOL

At its core, the RXM is built around one defining concept—modularity that actually matters.

The Ruger RXM platform is built around a single serialized fire control insert, allowing shooters to run multiple configurations from one regulated component. Full size for competition. Compact for carry. Future variations as the platform evolves. One system. One serialized component. Endless flexibility. (Photos by Jake Martens)

The serialized Fire Control Insert is the centerpiece of the system. Constructed from stainless steel, this removable chassis houses the fire control components and serves as the regulated firearm. Everything else becomes adaptable. Grip modules, sizes and future configurations all revolve around that single insert.

For the USPSA competitor, this changes the equation. Instead of owning multiple pistols for different divisions, training purposes or carry roles, the Ruger RXM allows you to maintain a consistent trigger, optic setup and manual of arms across multiple configurations.

The RXM Full Size configuration delivers exactly what shooters expect from a duty-sized handgun and then refines it.

  • Barrel length: 4.5"
  • Overall length: approximately 7.9"
  • Height: approximately 5.5"
  • Width: approximately 1.2"
  • Weight: 23 to 24 oz. unloaded
  • Capacity: 17 rounds standard
  • Caliber: 9 mm Luger

This is a pistol that sits comfortably in the hand, balances well and delivers a controllable shooting experience. The full-size grip allows for maximum contact, while the undercut trigger guard and extended beavertail promote a higher grip and better recoil management.

The result on the range is a pistol that tracks predictably, returns to zero efficiently and supports faster follow-up shots. It is not trying to be the smallest or lightest option. Instead, it is focused on being usable, repeatable and effective.

Magpul’s involvement in the RXM platform is not cosmetic; it is foundational. The Enhanced Handgun Grip module is purpose-built around control and ergonomics. The texture strikes a balance—aggressive enough to lock in during rapid fire, yet controlled enough for extended range sessions without fatigue. The grip angle promotes a natural point of aim, and the subtle flare at the magazine well improves reload efficiency without adding unnecessary bulk

Interchangeable backstrap options and future grip module sizes allow shooters to fine-tune the fit. For competitors, that means consistency. For everyday shooters, it means comfort and confidence.

This is where the RXM separates itself from traditional polymer pistols. Instead of adapting your grip to the gun, the gun adapts to you.

OPTICS-READY, DONE RIGHT

The RXM comes optics-ready from the factory with a direct-mount system that supports multiple popular footprints. This eliminates the need for adapter plates, keeping the optic lower to the slide.

That lower mounting position improves presentation, reduces offset and minimizes additional failure points. It is a cleaner and more durable solution.

Factory-installed steel sights with a tritium front provide a reliable backup sighting system and allow for co-witness capability, depending on optic choice.

For USPSA shooters running Carry Optics, this matters. A consistent sight picture and presentation translate directly into performance. The RXM is also at home in Production Division or even L10, with or without an optic.

RELIABILITY AND INTERNAL DESIGN

Internally, the Ruger RXM follows a proven striker-fired system with a focus on durability and simplicity. The slide is constructed from alloy steel and finished with a corrosion-resistant coating designed to handle hard use.

  • Stainless steel fire control insert for durability and longevity
  • Striker-fired system with internal safeties
  • Trigger safety integrated into the design
  • A clean break with a tactile and audible reset
  • Accessory rail for lights and training tools

The trigger is not overly light, and that is intentional. It is built to be dependable across multiple roles, from competition to defensive use. The reset is defined, allowing for controlled cadence during rapid fire.

COMPATIBILITY AND REAL-WORLD INTEGRATION

One of the most overlooked strengths of the RXM platform is its compatibility.

The RXM is designed to work within the ecosystem shooters already use. That means compatibility with common holsters, support for widely available magazines and integration with existing gear setups.

For USPSA competitors, this reduces the barrier to entry. You are not rebuilding your entire setup. You are enhancing it.

For new shooters, it means accessibility. You are stepping into a platform that works with what is already available on the market.

ON THE RANGE

Performance is where the RXM earns its place. The combination of full-size grip, balanced slide and refined ergonomics creates a shooting experience that feels controlled and predictable. Recoil impulse is smooth. The gun tracks flat. Transitions feel natural.

Reloads are efficient thanks to the flared magwell and grip design. The trigger supports consistent shot placement, and the optics system enhances target acquisition speed.

For USPSA use, the RXM fits naturally into divisions such as Carry Optics and Production. It offers the capacity, control and adaptability needed to compete without requiring a significant financial investment.

VALUE THAT CHANGES THE CONVERSATION

This is where the RXM platform becomes truly compelling. Ruger has built a system that delivers features typically found in higher-priced firearms but at a price point that remains accessible. When combined with the modular design, the value multiplies.

Instead of purchasing multiple firearms for different roles, the RXM allows shooters to invest in one platform and expand it over time.

One Fire Control Insert. Multiple grip modules. Consistent performance across every configuration. For the everyday competitor, this is significant. It lowers the cost of entry into competitive shooting while maintaining performance. It allows shooters to train, compete and carry with the same system.

A PLATFORM FOR THE MODERN SHOOTER

The Ruger RXM Full Size is not trying to be everything to everyone. It is built to be the foundation for everything a shooter needs:

  • Competition-ready with full-size performance
  • Adaptable for concealed carry with future configurations
  • Cost-effective for the average shooter
  • Built with real-world use in mind

This is a platform that understands the modern shooter does not live in a single lane. You train, you compete, you carry and you protect. The Ruger RXM is designed to move seamlessly between those roles.

The RXM represents a shift in how we think about handguns. It is not about owning more guns. It is about owning a better system.

Ruger and Magpul have delivered a platform that is modular, reliable and built with purpose. It meets the needs of the everyday competitor while providing the flexibility to grow with the shooter. At the end of the day, it comes down to one question: Does it work?

On the range, in competition and in real-world use, the answer is clear. The Ruger RXM works.
