SK Guns’ 2025 Gun of the Year, a limited-run Colt 1911, doesn’t just wink at Mexican folklore; it dives straight into it with the conviction of a legend retold around late-night campfires. Only 300 pistols will be produced, each chambered in .38 Super and built to echo the life and myth of Jesús Malverde, the folk figure often described as a Robin Hood–like presence in Sinaloa’s collective memory.
Malverde’s story has always lived in that hazy space between history and myth. Said to have worked the land before turning to banditry in the late 1800s, he became a symbol for the poor who saw him as a renegade protector. SK Guns leaned into that cultural gravity, packing the pistol with imagery steeped in memorial symbolism and national pride.
The left side of the slide carries a silver-plated skull paired with butterflies that signal love for the departed, anchored by candle imagery and flowers connected to resilience and hope. Gold borders frame the artwork while a deep scroll pattern pulls it all together without overplaying its hand.
The right side shifts tone with a silver-plated sword, an early Colt Single Action Army revolver and stylized depictions of money flowing back to those in need. Butterflies and national flowers continue across the metal, creating a mirrored narrative of Malverde’s dual identity: feared outlaw, beloved benefactor.
Up top, the slide transforms into a miniature shrine. A portrait of Malverde sits at the center, circled by national flowers, with a banner reading “Bandido Generoso” (Generous Bandit) and a rosary wrapping around it like a quiet invocation.
The pistol’s hardware doesn’t shy away from spectacle. Polished steel meets 24k gold on key components, contrasted by a deep Colt Royal Blue finish. Touches of .999 silver plating give the piece a chilled-metal gleam and the black pearl Kirinite grips hide a gold peso medallion, tying the whole story back to the soil Malverde once walked.
SK Guns says the model will ship in March 2026, with preorder pricing already live. The MSRP sits at $2,700, but the rarity alone will likely nudge collectors to act early. Go to skguns.com.
