Our friends at Applied Ballistics have a real gold mine of articles on the science of accurate shooting on their website. And, they are generous enough to offer all of these technical papers as free PDF downloads for shooters. This is a fantastic source for precision shooting information because, quite simply―the folks at Applied Ballistics are long range shooting experts, led by master ballistician and former rocket scientist Bryan Litz.

Topics presented are wide-ranging; from ballistic coefficients to bullet analysis. Some examples from the 37 papers on the website: “How to properly use your AB Kestrel in the blazing heat of summer,” “Extending the maximum effective range of small arms,” “How ballistic programs work,” and a two-part series on “Understanding long range bullets.”

Free technical articles on Applied Ballistics website
Each article has a short description, along with links for downloading in various formats.

“The technical articles we have provided should help shooters get the right information they need instead of inaccurate data,” said Nigel “Doc” Beech, technical support specialist at Applied Ballistics. “For example, one of the biggest issues I have seen is the misunderstanding and miseducation about a bullet’s ballistic coefficient (BC) and what it really means. Several papers on ballistic coefficient are available for shooters to review on the website.”

There is some real value here for competitive shooters. Some of the articles are directly pulled from books that Bryan Litz has published, such as “Measuring muzzle velocity,” which is chapter 15 of Litz’s book Modern Advancements in Long Range Shooting. Other authors include Eric Stecker (president of Berger Bullets), Dan Periard, and Applied Ballistics’ very own Doc Beech.

If you don’t want to download PDF files, the articles are available at reasonable prices in Kindle and Nook e-reader files.
