The scattergun duo of Kayle Browning and Brian Burrows picked up a Trap Mixed Team silver medal at the ISSF World Cup in Acapulco, Mexico, on Wednesday, March 20.

Not only did they win the silver, Browning and Burrows set a qualification world record with 149 targets hit. Browning shot a personal best of 75 targets. The Trap Mixed Team event has each team member shoot 75 targets.

In the final, they nailed 43 out of 50 targets to snag the silver, only bested by the Australian team that scored 46. Picking up the bronze medal was Great Britain with 34.

The Trap Mixed Team event was introduced in 2017 and will make its Olympic debut as an event at the 2020 Tokyo Games. There were no Olympic quotas available in Acapulco, however.

Burrows, who won a silver medal in Men's Trap in 2013 in Acapulco, gave credit to his teammate for this year in Mexico.

“I was fortunate to have a great partner for the Mixed Team event,” Burrows told USA Shooting in a press release.

Browning mentions that low visibility towards the end of the final provided a challenge.

“The lighting got rough towards the end and it was hard to see the targets, but we did our best and was able to come out with silver,” said Browning.

Also competing in the Trap Mixed Team event for Team USA was Aeriel Skinner and 2008 Olympic gold medalist Glenn Eller, who finished in 31st place with 140 hits.

Saturday, March 23 marks the beginning of the Women's Skeet competition. Over 350 athletes from 61 countries are competing at this match, the opener of the international competitive shooting season.
