Colt has a new handgun for shooters who want to mount a red-dot optic to their 1911s. At SHOT Show 2025, the company announced its Optics-Ready 1911 Competition Pistols which, as the name implies, are built with a stainless-steel slide cut for optics.

Available chambered in 9 mm Luger and .45 ACP, the new 1911 Competition Pistols from Colt will include a black nitride cover plate with a fixed, serrated rear sight in a Glock dovetail. The optics-mounting plates will be available separately.

More from the company about the new handguns: “Featuring Colt’s innovative optics plate system, the Optics-Ready 1911 Competition Pistols are equipped with advanced features to enhance speed, accuracy and customization. Available in both 9 mm and .45 ACP, these pistols deliver the performance required for high-level competition. These enhancements make the pistols the perfect choice for those looking to gain a competitive advantage.”

Besides the optics-ready slide, Colt’s new 1911 Competition pistols feature an updated Series 70 Firing System and stainless finish. Additionally, enhanced ergonomics will help keep the pistol low in the hand for increased control and better handling during rapid-fire shooting.

Barrel length is five inches. Capacity is 8+1 for the .45 ACP chambering and 9+1 for 9 mm Luger. In addition to the aforementioned serrated rear sight, there is a Novak red fiber-optic front sight.

The G10 checkered blue grip with scallops pairs well with the stainless finish.

Unloaded weight is 36 ounces. The length is 8½ inches, with height measuring 5¾ inches and the width at 1¼ inches.

“We are excited to announce the launch of the Optics-Ready 1911 Competition pistols from Colt,” Colt President Josh Dorsey said. “This new line represents the perfect fusion of Colt’s legacy of excellence and the cutting-edge technology competitive shooters demand. With advanced optics compatibility, enhanced ergonomics and the legendary performance Colt is known for, we’re confident these pistols will give shooters the edge they need to stay ahead in the competition.”

MSRP for the new Colt Optics-Ready 1911 Competition Pistols chambered in 9 mm Luger and .45 ACP is $1,399. The companys says these new handguns will be available in April 2025. Learn more at colt.com.
