Springfield Armory recently donated 12 of its SA-16A2 rifles for Hillsdale College’s Modern American Riflery course. The SA-16A2 is modeled after the M16A2, which the Marine Corps and the Army adopted in the 1980s.

Springfield Armory also sponsors the Hillsdale College Action Shooting Team.

“We are proud to have the opportunity to partner with Hillsdale College for this new training course,” Steve Kramer, vice president of marketing for Springfield Armory said. “The SA-16A2’s classic configuration and impressive performance make it an ideal fit for this class.”

The course will teach students basic rifle marksmanship, including safety, nomenclature of the rifle, operation of the rifle, cleaning and maintenance, external ballistics, zeroing and marksmanship from the prone, seated, kneeling and standing positions. As the class progresses, the students will participate in competitions as both individuals and teams. Additionally, Hillsdale College Modern American Riflery classes will be held at the John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center.

Springfield Armory currently funds remitted scholarships for members of the Hillsdale College Action Shooting Team. The company also supplies the team’s firearms, including Echelon and Prodigy firearms, along with access to training with top competitive shooter Rob Leatham.

“It has been exciting to see the growing interest among the young men and women here at the College in the exercise of their Second Amendment rights,” Adam Burlew, operations manager at Hillsdale’s John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center said. “Because of Springfield Armory’s support, these students will become proficient in safely and effectively operating and maintaining a firearm using some of the best rifles out there. We are very grateful for all that Springfield Armory has done for us.”
