Long-time MidwayUSA & NRA Bianchi Cup protest committee chairman Clive Whelan is set to retire. Clive first came onto the action pistol scene after a trip to NRA in 1989, meeting with competitive shooting director John Grubar about bringing police pistol combat competition down under. The Aussies were interested in holstered pistol competition. However, PPC is restricted to law enforcement only, so NRA suggested action pistol as an alternative for the Australians. Later that year, Clive served as the team manager of the first Australian team to shoot the world’s most prestigious pistol match.

In 1994, Clive stepped down as vice president of Pistol Australia, and joined the Bianchi Cup protest committee. Passionate about the sport he loves, Clive’s work with Pistol Australia has helped support regional clubs for a strong base for action shooting. An institution at the Bianchi Cup, he will be missed on the “porch.”
