The new VX-Freedom RDS (Red Dot Sight) from Leupold is a lightweight, tubular red dot for those seeking an easy-to-install option. Even better, the new optic is built in the U.S. at the company's Beaverton, OR, factory.

Featuring a 34mm maintube, the VX-Freedom RDS red dot is about 5.5 inches long and weighs under seven ounces. Included in the box is a mount that sits at the optimum height for rifles based on the AR-platform. Conveniently, the RDS can be mounted using your choice of 34mm rings.

The 1 MOA dot reticle is motion-activated. The system activates the sight instantly when it senses movement, and also goes into standby mode after five minutes of inactivity. Additionally, there's a manual shutoff feature that will also aid in maximizing precious battery life.

There are two models available: one with capped ¼-MOA click adjustments, and the other with a exposed BDC elevation turret (pictured at the top of this article). There's 80 MOA of adjustment for both the elevation and windage. The BDC model is shipped with measurements out to 500 yards for common 55-grain .223 Rem. ammo. The BDC elevation turret allows shooters to easily dial up for longer shots.

Leupold is touting the VX-Freedom RDS as a "game-changing new red dot that's built tough, performs in extreme conditions, and won't break the bank." Built with recreational shooters and hunters in mind, this tubular red sight is meant for rugged use.

While there is no firm MSRP yet, shooters can expect pricing to be around $300 for the MOA adjustment model and under $400 for the BDC model.
