Olympian Derrick Mein took High Over All honors at the 2021 Federal HOA Minnesota State Championship, held at Horse & Hunt Club in Prior Lake, Minn., the weekend of August 27–29.

Mein, a Federal-sponsored shooter, dominated the field of 221 sporting clay shooters in the HOA competition, shooting 384 of 400 targets in a combination of sporting clays, FITASC and Super Sporting events. He received a $2,000 cash award for the HOA win.

For ammunition, Mein won the HOA title while using Federal's new High Over All shotshell in 12-gauge, 1 ounce, 1,290 f.p.s. in shot size 7.5.

The HOA runner-up was Tyler Brake with 373. In third place was another Federal-sponsored shooter, Cameron Hicks, with 371 hits. Brake and Hicks received cash payouts of $1,250 and $750, respectively.

In total, 269 shooters from 12 states competed at the match, which also boasted nearly $30,000 in prizes and awards.

At the event, the company launched the aforementioned Federal Premium High Over All (HOA) shotshell product line. These loads are specifically engineered for trap, skeet and sporting clays shooters. All registered shooters were given a box of the new ammunition to test and evaluate and the reviews were full of anticipation of the product being available to purchase in early November.

Jason Vanderbrink, Federal Ammunition’s president, was elated to debut the new HOA shotshell line at a local venue, along with receiving plenty of good feedback from shooters at the match.

“It was a great weekend to kick off our new HOA product in our home state of Minnesota. The feedback we got from every shooter who provided a product review was extremely positive and validates our introduction of a great product for competitive shooters as well as those wanting to improve performance.”

Additionally, the match included a concert by Minnesota native Natalie Murphy on Friday night, plus a Saturday performance by the exhibition shooting team of Steve and Aaron Gould, also known as the Gould Brothers.
