Ten banks of traps start throwing targets at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 7 on the Kansas prairie north of Wichita. Seven days and 18 events later, the 48th Annual ATA Southwestern Grand will be in the books.

One of the Amateur Trapshooting Association’s satellite Grand American events, the Southwestern Grand is hosted by the Kansas Trapshooting Association at its homegrounds in Sedgwick, where the tournament has been staged since its 2021 move from the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio.

The week builds toward the weekend. Saturday, Sept. 12 brings the Browning Singles Championship featuring 200 16-yard targets, with 28 squads starting at 9:00 a.m. Sunday delivers a doubleheader—the Doubles Championship sponsored by Bruce Davis at 100 pair, followed by the Winchester Ammunition Handicap Championship, which pays trophies through seventh place.

The High All Around presented by Kolar is decided over 400 targets in events 16, 17 and 18. The High Over All presented by White Flyer spans 1,200 targets across events 7 through 14 and 16 through 18. Both award trophies to the champion, each class from AAA through D and each declared category including Lady I, Lady II, Sub-Junior, Junior, Junior Gold, Sub-Veteran, Veteran, Senior Veteran and High Wheelchair Shooter.

The Southwestern Grand Youth Championship shoots simultaneously with the Singles Championship on Saturday, though at neighboring Ark Valley Gun Club just east of the KTA grounds. Trophies will be autographed and presented by Harlan Campbell, Jr., a 26-time ATA All-American with 12 Grand American World Championships and 337 career 100 straights in doubles. The event is open to any youth shooter—AIM or SCTP membership is not required—and the first 100 entrants who have never held an ATA or KTA membership receive complimentary membership for 2027. Registration closes Sept. 6.

Several KTA pins are up for grabs, including the Jayhawk Pin for 100 straight and the Buffalo Pin for a 200x200 in the Singles Championship.
