Hillsdale College Will Host 2023 USA Shooting Shotgun National Championships

The John A. Halter Shooting Sports Education Center at Hillsdale College, Hillsdale, Mich., is hosting the 2023 USA Shooting National Shotgun Championships May 17-28.

The John A. Halter Shooting Sports Education Center at Hillsdale College, Hillsdale, Mich., is hosting the 2023 USA Shooting National Shotgun Championships.

Dates for the competition are May 17-28, including the skeet nationals May 17-22, followed by trap nationals May 23-28.

The competition also serves as the first installment of the U.S. Olympic Shotgun Trials for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The match is open to all U.S. citizens who are members of USA Shooting. International competitors are only eligible to win visitor and international awards. Additionally, if participation warrants an international final, it will be held after 125 targets.

International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) shooting rules and match director bulletins will govern this championship.

The new ISSF rule change below defines how a junior will be recognized, beginning at the 2023 USA Shooting Shotgun National Championships.

Rule 3.7.4.12: Athletes will remain as Juniors until the 31st of December of the year in which they become 21 years of age. Any athlete born between the 1st of January and the 31st of December, will cease to be a Junior on the 31st of December of that year.

The following categories are eligible for medals in both skeet and trap disciplines.

  • Men Under 18, Women Under 18
  • Men Under 15, Women Under 15
  • Collegiate
  • Senior 
  • International 
  • Paralympic Trap

    • May 19: 75 match targets
    • May 20: 50 match targets, ISSF finals (senior and international)
    • May 21: 75 match targets

  • Trap
    • May 23: Open training
    • May 24: Pre-event training
    • May 25: 75 match targets
    • May 26: 50 match targets, ISSF finals (senior and international)
    • May 27: Grand Prix Para Finals
    • May 27: 75 match targets
    • May 28: 50 match targets, ISSF finals (open and junior)
