The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games in France wrapped up on Sunday, September 8. For USA Shooting Paralympic athletes competing in shooting events, the final event was R6 mixed 50m rifle prone SH1 on Thursday, September 5. U.S. Paralympic athletes walked away from the Chateauroux Shooting Center in France with one medal from YanXiao Gong, who earned silver in the P3 mixed 25m pistol SH1 event.

Here is a day-by-day breakdown of U.S. results in the shooting events at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

On Friday, August 30, YanXiao Gong and Marco De La Rosa competed in the P1 men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event. Gong finished 16th and De La Rosa in 22nd place, neither placing high enough on the leaderboard to qualify for the final.

The same day in the R4 mixed 10m air rifle standing SH2 event, U.S. Paralympic athletes McKenna Geer and Jazmin Almlie-Ryan finished in 23rd and 26th places, respectively, in the event qualifier. Once again, U.S. athletes did not move on to the final.

On Sunday, September 1, Kevin Nguyen finished 27th in the R3 mixed 10m air rifle prone SH1 qualifier round with a score of 628.4. As only the top eight athletes get to advance to the final, Nguyen did not move forward in this event.

In addition, Jazmin Almlie-Ryan and McKenna Geer earned 27th and 33rd places, respectively, in the R5 mixed 10m air rifle prone SH2 qualifying round, with final scores of 630.1 and 626.4. This wrapped up the Paris 2024 Paralympics for Almlie-Ryan, while Geer went on to compete in the R9 mixed 50m prone SH2 event on Wednesday, September 4.

While many people back in the U.S. were celebrating Labor Day on Monday, September 2, U.S. Paralympic pistol shooter YanXiao Gong scored the silver medal in the P3 mixed 25m pistol SH1 final after scoring 28 points. This marked Gong’s first Paralympic medal, after finishing 10th in the event at the Tokyo Paralympics. He entered the P3 mixed 25m pistol SH1 event final, after placing fourth overall in qualification with an impressive performance in the rapid round to earn a berth in the final.

Additionally, in the P3 mixed 25m pistol SH1 final, Chao Yang of China set a Paralympic record with a 30-point score to win the gold medal, while Jungnam Kim of Korea earned bronze with 24 points.

On Wednesday, September 4, YanXiao Gong missed out on second podium finish after taking eighth place in the P4 mixed 50m pistol SH1 final, posting a score of 96.9. He entered the final after finishing seventh in the qualifier with a score of 534. After this event, Gong had wrapped up his events at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

The same day, U.S. Paralympic rifle shooter McKenna Geer was ranked 13th on the R9 mixed 50m rifle prone SH2 event qualification leaderboard. As she did not finish among the top eight shooters, Geer did not advance to the final, finishing her Paralympic competitive shooting journey in France this year.

On Thursday, September 5, U.S. Paralympic shooters John Joss III and Kevin Nguyen placed 14th and 15th, respectively, in the R6 mixed 50m rifle prone SH1 event qualification round. Joss posted a score 619.2 and Nguyen had 618.6. After this event, Team USA had concluded all of its Para shooting events at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
