Although it was cold, and the rain ended up changing to snow at the 2017 Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) Ohio Halloween Regional, the event was by all accounts very successful. A total of 94 student-athletes (including 29 women) braved the elements to compete. Participation increased by a staggering 370 percent over the 2016 event.

This year also saw the addition of five college teams. There were brand new teams from Concordia University; the University of Wisconsin, Platteville; and Hillsdale College. Concordia had three second place finishes, and Hillsdale ended the match with one second place finish. The University of Wisconsin, Platteville dominated the college division by winning four first place medals. Michigan State University was close behind Wisconsin with three first place medals.

In the high school divisions, the previous National Champions Lake Country Action Shooters and Ozaukee Scholastic Shooting Sports (both from Wisconsin) each took home four first place medals. Ohio teams also made a very strong in-state showing. The Ohio Steel Stingers fielded 19 student-athletes and, they ended up with the most medals of any team at the Regional. They had six first place and two second place finishes. Additionally, the Ohio Buckeye Bullet Busters had one first place finish, two in second place and a third place finish.

The match was attended by 17 teams representing six states: Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee and Wisconsin. According to the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (parent organization of SASP), the total number of entries was up 473 percent from last year, making the Ohio Halloween Regional the largest SASP Regional of the year.
