SK Guns has brought back the pistol that started its La Revolución series, and it arrives wearing a different suit.

The new Pancho Villa run is capped at 300 Colt 1911 Government Models chambered in .38 Super, each carrying its own engraved edition number. Polished stainless replaces the finish of the original release, which SK Guns introduced to mark the centennial of the Mexican revolutionary general’s death in 1923.

Chambering matters more here than it might on a typical commemorative. The .38 Super holds a special reverence in Mexico, largely because Mexican law reserves several common service calibers for military use and leaves .38 Super among the more capable options available to civilian owners. Pairing that cartridge with a Villa tribute is a choice with some thought behind it.

Villa himself remains one of the more complicated figures a firearms engraver can take on. Born in 1878 and assassinated in Parral in 1923, he commanded the División del Norte during the fighting that drove Porfirio Díaz from power and installed Francisco I. Madero in the presidency in 1911, then spent the following decade shifting between alliance and open warfare with nearly every faction the revolution produced.

Close-up of an engraved 1911 slide reading REVOLUCION with a gold figure on horseback and a scroll banner
“REVOLUCION” and a mounted Villa charging toward the phrase “El Centauro del Norte” dominate the right side, above the individually numbered frame.

Engraving covers both sides of the gun. On the left, a rendering of the Monument to the Revolution in Mexico City sits forward on the slide, framed by Cannas floral scroll with selective shading. Below it, a column of División del Norte soldiers carries a banner bearing Villa’s most quoted line: “Fusílenlo, después averiguamos,” or “Shoot him, we’ll find out later.” Villa appears on horseback at a gallop, worked in gold against the scroll.

Flip the pistol and the treatment continues. “REVOLUCION” runs in gold across the slide beneath the coat of arms of the Free and Sovereign State of Durango, with a right-profile version of the mounted Villa charging toward a banner reading “El Centauro del Norte”—the Centaur of the North, the nickname that follows him through most accounts of the period.

Detail work carries onto surfaces most commemoratives leave alone. A portrait of Villa marked “1878-1923 Centenario” occupies the top of the slide. Just behind it, the area forward of the rear sight carries the Mexican coat of arms in the form used from 1899 to 1917. Villa's bandolier, loaded with .30-30 cartridges, runs across the top of the ejection port.

Frame, slide, barrel and hardware are all polished, with selective 24-karat gold plating on the thumb safety, hammer, grip safety, slide stop, magazine release, grip screws and barrel bushing. Antique Pearl Kirinite grips finish the package, each panel set with a replica antique gold peso coin medallion.

Pre-orders are open at $3,100, a figure SK Guns describes as pre-launch pricing that will rise to MSRP. Shipping is scheduled to begin in late December 2026.
