Five-time All-American Mindy Miles was announced as the new Nebraska rifle team head coach on May 24, 2021. Some readers will remember in 2015 when Miles set the collegiate shooting world on fire as a Texas Christian University freshman, when she became only the fifth shooter in NCAA history to shoot a perfect 600 score (air rifle).

Former NRA All-American and USA Shooting national team member Mindy Miles has been promoted to head rifle coach at Nebraska.

The seventh head coach in Nebraska rifle team history, Miles takes over the coaching reins from Rachel Martin, who after two seasons has stepped down to pursue a degree at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Miles served as an assistant coach under Martin the past two years, where she helped Nebraska qualify for the NCAA Championships both seasons. This past March, the Nebraska rifle team garnered a sixth-place finish at the 2021 NCAA Championships.

As a competitor at TCU, Miles was a three-time first-team NRA All-American in air rifle and two-time NRA All-American in smallbore. As a senior, she helped lead TCU to a third-place finish at the 2018 NCAA Championships.

Hailing from Weatherford, Texas, Miles earned her bachelor’s degree from Texas Christian University in May 2018 after majoring in strategic communications with an emphasis in public relations and advertising and a minor in business.

Here is what Miles said to the Nebraska university press about being promoted to head coach of the rifle program.

“I remember competing at the Nebraska Rifle Range as a student-athlete at TCU and would hear stories about the historic football team, the exceptional resources the department was able to provide their student-athletes and the academic accolades. I would like to thank Coach Rachel Martin for bringing me on staff two years ago, as I was able to learn from her, grow into a professional role and also truly understand the reason why so many student-athletes choose to become Huskers. I look forward to being able to support the current and future student-athletes at the Nebraska and will push this program to be the best it can be.”
