Springfield Armory has taken the wraps off its new Kuna pistol chambered in 9 mm Luger that packs in a roller-delayed operating system, ambidextrous controls and hybrid flip-up sights, plus a variant with a Strike Industries FSA folding brace.

More from Springfield Armory: “Developed in partnership with HS Produkt, the roller-delayed Kuna is precision manufactured designed for optimal fit and function. Its small profile, nimble handling and prolific capacity make it a fierce personal defense platform. The all-new Kuna from Springfield Armory is built to deliver exceptional performance in a portable package.”

The Kuna is offered in two variants. One features an integrated Picatinny rail on the end plate. The other variant is fitted with a Strike Industries FSA brace on the Picatinny rail end plate. This single-side folding brace has a steel-hinge design provides quick deployment and compact storage.

At the heart of the Kuna is a roller-delayed operating system, which employs a roller to temporarily lock the bolt into battery and eliminates the need for a heavy bolt or gas system. By reducing reciprocating mass, recoil and muzzle flip are both reduced.

The Kuna 9 mm pistol has a monolithic aluminum upper with integral M-LOK slots, and the six-inch barrel is cold radial hammer forged for strength and durability. The barrel sports a fixed design that minimizes movement and vibration during firing to enhance accuracy and shot-to-shot consistency. In addition, the Melonite-finished barrel’s muzzle is 1/2×28 threaded and topped off with a multi-port brake.

The Kuna’s roller-delayed operating system and factory 1/2×28 threaded six-inch barrel make it a solid choice for use with a suppressor, if desired.

Fully ambidextrous, the Springfield Armory Kuna features a reversible, non-reciprocating charging handle that automatically folds down and out of the way. This is complemented by a set of ambidextrous controls, including the safety, magazine release and bolt release.

The Kuna feeds from dedicated translucent 30-round magazines with metal feed lips, allowing for immediate visual access to current round counts. The Kuna ships with two magazines.

“The performance of the Kuna speaks for itself,” Springfield Armory Vice President of Marketing Steve Kramer said. “With its roller-delayed operating system and ruggedly durable design, the Kuna represents the new benchmark of capability.” (Photo courtesy Springfield Armory)

The Kuna also features an AR-pattern pistol grip with the Adaptive Grip Texture found on Springfield Armory’s Hellcat and Echelon pistols.

Not only that, the Kuna features unique adjustable hybrid flip-up metal sights. They offer users either a precision aperture rear/ring post front sighting system when flipped up, or a pistol-style white dot front sight/U-notch rear unit when folded down.

More about the name “Kuna”: This new pistol is named after the European Pine Marten, known in Croatia as the “Kuna.” A formidable hunter, the Kuna holds the distinction of being the country’s national animal as well as lending its name to military units. In tribute to Springfield Armory’s manufacturing partners at HS Produkt in Croatia and that nation’s storied tradition of resilience and independence, the Kuna pistol represents the pinnacle of their shared mission and values.

The standard Kuna 9 mm pistol with an integrated Picatinny rail on the end plate is priced at an MSRP of $999. The other variant—with Strike Industries FSA brace fitted out on the Picatinny rail end plate—is priced at an MSRP of $1,149.
