Ask a group of suppressor owners how they clean their cans and you’ll likely hear a handful of homemade answers. These days you don’t have to improvise. Soak tubes and cleaning solutions made for suppressors have made it to the shelf, along with bench tools designed around a can.
It’s a job worth doing right. Carbon, copper and lead fouling build up inside a suppressor over repeated range sessions, and that residue can drag down performance over time.
First, Hold It Still
Real Avid offers a product that’s useful before any solvent comes out. Its Master Gun Vise, which Shooting Sports USA covered at its 2021 launch, mounts to a bench on an articulating ball-and-socket base with a cam lever, allowing you reposition a rifle in any orientation without taking it out of the vise. A Torq-Lok pin locks it into a single fixed position for high-torque tasks, and Real Avid pitches the vise as a solid platform for mounting suppressor adapters and flash hiders. Price is $299.99.
Clamping a suppressor tube raises its own worry about finishes and coatings, which is the job Real Avid designed the Smart-Jaws Tube-Fit sleeves for. Priced at $49.99, they fit the Master Gun Vise and present a rubberized V-channel that grips round parts without marring them and resists heat. Flip them over and a steel V-channel takes over for rougher work. Real Avid rates the sleeves for diameters up to 3¾ inches.
Detail work belongs to the Accu-Grip Steel Picks, a set of five double-ended 420 stainless steel picks with 10 tip shapes and overmolded handles. Real Avid aims them at mounting surfaces, locking lugs and tight suppressor components where residue accumulates, the spots where plastic picks and solvents can fall short. Price is $44.99.
Then Let It Soak
Remington Gun Care’s new suppressor line centers on the soak, a popular cleaning approach that uses solvent to loosen fouling and debris. The lineup has three products, all available online and at dealers nationwide. An all-in-one choice is the Suppressor Cleaning Kit ($59.99) with a bottle of Remington’s cleaning fluid, a cleaning tube, a tray, two brushes and a pick, sized to fit most suppressors.
Reusable Suppressor Cleaning Tubes come three to a pack ($29.99) and fit most suppressor sizes, so three cans can soak at once. A two-bottle pack of Suppressor Cleaning Fluid ($59.99) rounds out the line, made for rimfire, handgun and rifle suppressors. Each bottle is 16 ouches and Remington names aluminum, stainless steel and titanium as safe materials.
Buy Breakthrough Clean at Silencer Central
Shoppers already browsing Silencer Central will find a kit there designed with Breakthrough Clean Technologies, the company that launched a dedicated suppressor cleaner in 2023. The kit includes a co-branded 16-ounce bottle of suppressor cleaner with a soak tube, a tray, a retrieval tool and brushes. According to the Silencer Central website, the tube allows complete submersion of all suppressor parts, including non-serviceable, all-welded suppressors. The retailer also notes that user-serviceable cans require regular cleaning to keep carbon buildup and fouling in check. Price is $64.99.
Whichever route you take, check your suppressor manufacturer’s cleaning instructions before anything goes into a tube. Nobody buys a suppressor because they’re excited to clean it, but a soak tube and a good set of picks beat fighting a seized mount at the range.
