General Douglas MacArthur, born in 1880, was one of America's greatest generals. He served in the Spanish-American War and during World War I rose to the rank of Brigadier General.

From 1919 to 1922, General MacArthur served as the Superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. While serving at West Point, General MacArthur was presented with a Colt Model 1903 .32 ACP pistol, serial number 372130. The John Browning-designed Model 1903 was produced from 1903 until 1946 with four-inch barrels and an eight-round capacity magazine.

After serving as the U.S. Army's Chief of Staff, MacArthur became a military advisor to the President of the Philippines and was recalled to the colors in July 1941.

Ordered to evacuate the Philippines by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in March 1942, he promised "I shall return." He made good on that promise in 1945 when the Philippines were liberated by Allied forces. He led the Allied war effort in the defeat of Japan and was Supreme Allied Commander of occupation forces in Japan.
