Legendary firearms shooter David Tubb has left the range. David was an incredible innovator in the firearms industry, credited with many excellent creations for shooters all over the world. His love for the industry and for extreme accuracy shooting was unsurpassed at any level. His personal shooting skills will remain in history as amazing, remarkable and at times unbelievable. Perhaps his shooting accomplishments will never be achieved again.

“David Tubb is arguably the best, and winningest, competitive rifleman in history. He has won (to date) a record 11 NRA National High Power Rifle Championship titles. That’s four more than next best. In addition, David is an NRA Silhouette Rifle legend, having won nearly 30 open, individual National Championship titles in all four rifle categories. David has also won seven Sportsmen’s Team Challenge Championships along with six NRA Long-Range Rifle (600-1000 yards) National Championships, including his latest win in 2011 during which he also won his second Wimbledon Cup.” (Source: davidtubb.com)

David founded Superior Shooting Systems Inc. in December 1998, with its manufacturing and product innovation evolving from his long-standing career in competitive shooting. He was always a leader in shooting innovation—always chasing extreme accuracy solutions, always a trendsetter, never done thinking of ways to make shooting fun, satisfying and rewarding. He created the Tubb 2000 extreme accuracy rifle and, more recently, the Tubb Adaptive Target Rifle. He developed the Final Finish rifle performance enhancer, TubbDust bullet coating, an excellent lightweight scope level, Tubb DTAC Precision Loaded Ammunition, accuracy enhancement parts for triggers, custom bolts, custom loading dies, custom brass cases for his custom-designed cartridges, Dynamic Targeting Reticle (DTR) scopes, custom chamber reamers, custom muzzle brakes, accuracy-enhancing parts for many different rifles, plus his many books and DVDs on extreme accuracy shooting—and so much more. David was amazing, and his custom products are, too.

David Tubb was a nice guy. He was my good friend. He was confident, positive, well-spoken and an informative author and shooting video star. He shared information with shooters to help them better understand what extreme accuracy is really about—then repeatedly proved his ideas, styles and information correct by winning everything. He was a proven, excellent shooting teacher and trainer who instructed anyone and everyone on extreme long-range shooting in his many classes, often one on one.

David traveled the world to help shooters, compete in world-class competitions and hunt. On January 21, 2018, Team Tubb participated in the Extreme Long-Range Central World Record Event held in Nevada and won again, crowning David an Extreme Long-Range world record holder. As Shooting Sports USA put it: “David Tubb is (arguably) the best competitive rifleman in history. For Tubb, above all else, he never takes ‘no’ for an answer.”

Born in 1954, G. David Tubb of Canadian, Texas, came from a shooting family. His father, George Tubb, was an eight-time member of the U.S. Palma Team, and his mother, Pauline, was several times Women’s National High Power Rifle Champion. What, one might ask, would David take up? Golf? Hardly. He was featured in nearly every shooting publication on the planet, and he never hesitated to interact with shooters wherever he went.

David was my friend for nearly 30 years. We compared notes on shooting, and we were in business together. I always found David to be a gracious man, a generous man, a polite man, an honest and determined man. Perfection describes this amazing man. He was a family man who generously involved his family in his successful businesses and in his many adventures around the world.

David’s passing is a great loss to me and to the entire shooting world. It is very possible that no other extreme accuracy and long-range shooter will ever achieve what David did. But I know David would be very proud of the shooter who does. He would smile, shake their hand or give them a hug, then offer shooting advice with a grin—and perhaps, always the good businessman, mention a few of his products that might help them shoot even better.

David, you belonged to all of us in the shooting world, and we will miss you greatly. We will think of you when we make a great shot, knowing full well you might outshoot us with our own firearm. Your skill will be our inspiration every time we step to the line.

I hope all shooters, clubs, ranges and shooting organizations honor David as they should, each in their own way. He is due a 21-gun salute from the entire shooting world, and I will render one here at Arizona Ammunition with great emotion.

Thank you, David, for all you contributed to the shooting world. Thank you for being my friend. You will be remembered by all of us—remembered with a broad smile.

Goodbye, my friend.
